The German TV broadcast Galileo, which airs on ProSieben, featured Candiani Denim in its sustainability series Green Hero. The mill is introduced as the pioneer of a real revolution in the textile industry thanks to COREVA™, the first biodegradable and compostable stretch denim, and Candiani Custom, the first urban micro-factory producing custom jeans. Here is the entire video (in German with English subtitles).

Galileo’s journey through sustainable fashion with Alberto Candiani

Alberto Candiani led Galileo through a unique, sustainable fashion journey from our production facility in Robecchetto con Induno, 40 km outside Milan, to our store in Milan's historic city center in piazza Mentana, 3.

Candiani Denim is among the sustainability leaders in the textile industry. For almost 50 years, we have committed to finding solutions and developing innovations that are good for the environment and society overall. Our projects COREVA™ and Candiani Custom, are mainly focused on garments’ end-of-life and overproduction. Alberto Candiani aims to make sustainability a shared standard in the textile industry, not only a feature of the most virtuous companies.

COREVA™, the new frontier of sustainable jeans

20% of the plastics annually produced worldwide are used to manufacture clothes. Around 80% of the jeans bought today are made with stretch denim and hence contain synthetic fibers, commonly obtained by fossil fuels that need hundreds of years to decompose. Candiani Denim has developed the COREVA™ technology and created the first biodegradable and compostable stretch denim using organic cotton wrapped around a natural rubber core. Sustainable jeans made with COREVA™ can biodegrade in mature compost and become fertilizer in less than 6 months, releasing no microplastics into the environment.

Candiani Custom, fighting overproduction

Over 150 billion garments are produced every year worldwide, equating to roughly 20 garments per person on the planet today. This overproduction results in approximately 30% of new clothes remaining in stores and unworn. Whereas 87% of them are burned or dumped into landfills. Our Candiani Custom project aims to reduce these figures, producing jeans only when they are really needed.
